It fastly depends on the subjects and how complex the subject is. If you don't want to put in that time then the plug-ins are definitely the way to go (IMHO). If you put in the time to get proficient with photoshops tools you'll end up with a better result. I think peoples' opinion of these plug-ins very so much because people skills with photoshop's built-in tools varies widely. If you are willing to live with the results the plug-ins give you then you will save time. But once I do that the overall time is about the same as just doing it all myself in photoshop. Part of my issue is that I know that a better mask is possible than what either plug-in gives me in the end so I retouch their results. In the end I thought the pen tool, channel masking, computations, and select and mask did a better job and didn't really take much more time. I watched the tutorials and try out various strategies and techniques. I recently gave both fluid Fluid Mask and topaz remark a fairly thorough shake down. I can also recommend the Workflow Aids set of macros by James Ritson (the guy doing the Affinity tutorials). Yes, I don't do compositing as my usual routine, but I like to practise extractions mainly for masking purposes - I think that Affinity Photo's built-in tools like Refine Edges, Channels and the Apply Image filter do a good job in this respect. It tries to imitate the way of Photoshop Refine Edges and not ReMask tools.

No problem, I was just wondering that maybe there's a way to make it work.Īffinity Photo Refine Edges is doing a great job, the only "sin" is that Sorry for not being clear and not use the proper words. Or use Remask from PSE/PS, save the PSD and import into Affinity.īetter not use ReMask Color Recovery, but the one from Affinity. Is there a trick to get it working with Affinity? I can't invoke the Topaz ReMask plug-in from within Affinity Photo - it works well when invoked from PSE or as a stand-alone app, but not with AP (it crashes the program).
